Last week I threw National Post columnist Barbara Kay under the bus. I was addressing her article in the post which advocated male infant circumcision. Her article on that topic, is indefensible garbage, factually incorrect, makes numerous false claims and cites no sources for any expressed opinion. My previous criticism of the article mostly has to stand, but this is made more difficult by the fact that Kay mostly writes strongly humanitarian columns. In Fact in the National Post website, where her article is still shown, one of the links to other articles of hers carried the headline “Communities Must Speak Out Against Brutal Traditions”. The first thought that jumps into my head on reading that is : “brutal traditions like male infant circumcision”. We have an author who is mostly humanitarian in her point of view, so where did the circumcision article come from? I have to admit I’m quite confused by that. My confusion is compounded by an interview she gave to Michael Coren, in which she makes the case that our society is becoming a misandric, female supremest society. These are things that Men’s Rights Activists have been saying all along, including myself. Maybe Barbara Kay isn’t quite the bad apple I thought she was, but I still don’t understand where the circumcision point of view comes from. And recognizing that she’s a professional writer, I also can’t fathom how she produced an article so factually false making demonstrably false claims, and citing no sources. Did somebody else write that thing?
Although I do have to withdraw some of my condemnation, my puzzlement is escalated that she’s advocating a position of men’s rights, in light of her circumcision apologetics.
